Which heat pump parameter do you actually control?
The parameters we control depend on the heat pump model. Typically, for air-to-water heat pumps, we manage inlet temperature setpoints on the heating curve and upper and lower tank temperature setpoints for hot domestic water production.
Are you turning the air-to-water heat pump on and off?
Our controls vary based on the heat pump type. In inverter-driven heat pumps, our controls generally don't result in the heat pump switching off. However, with on-off compressors, lowering the setpoint might lead to the compressor turning off, which is a normal operation. We ensure that compressors aren't turned off during extreme cold weather conditions.
Giving it a different room set temperature? Altering the schedule? Requesting a certain flow temperature?
Kapacity.io Cloud optimizes based on given setpoints or schedules. Users can continue using their remote controller or manufacturer app to alter schedules, and Kapacity.io Cloud seamlessly works around them.
Is it different for a Nibe versus a Daikin?
There are differences in data acquisition from various manufacturers. We're constantly updating our Daikin API to ensure it matches the quality of the Nibe API. Currently, users can't access hot domestic water optimization in Daikin devices due to connectivity limitations. Read more on Kapacity.io integrations and more detailed control differences here.
Are the 10% and 25% cost savings estimates based on air-to-air heat pumps or air-to-water heat pumps?
Our reference points for cost savings estimates are primarily for hydronic systems, including air-to-water heat pumps. We started with ground source heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps, expanding our portfolio to include air-to-air heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and exhaust air heat pumps.
